BDMC – 2nd Floor Radiology
This 23,383 square foot renovation of the entire Radiology Department consisted of 3 New RF Rooms, Ultrasound, New Reading Rm, New Angio, Prep Hold and Waiting Room. A large component of this project was its extensive mechanical system which included air handler units being replaced on the roof. This project was originally designed in 4 phases, but our team members were able to reconfigure it to be built in 3 phases not only to save time, but to lessen the inconvenience to the Radiology Dept. so they could be operational and generating revenue for Banner Health. Communication was absolutely critical to the success of this project.
This project also required detailed coordination with the abatement contractors performing work directly for Banner Health. Working closely with these companies allowed us to forecast upcoming events and any changes in the areas of impact, which provides us with another tool to help maintain the project schedule.
One of the challenges we faced during this project was vibration and noise control. The Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit was directly above the space on the 3rd floor so noise and vibration was a big concern. We were able to implement a plan using a low volume Hilti tool to help keep the infants safe up above. This particular tool, DD EC-1 Diamond Drilling System, allows for low vibration and reduced noise for smooth and quiet drilling. We also use the optional DD REC-1 Water Recycling Unit for no-slurry drilling which lessons the mess that usually occurs during normal core drilling.
