About Us
Our founder, Robert E. Mann, began serving the healthcare construction industry in the state of Arizona in the 1950’s. Using the knowledge he gained from his experience as an Estimator and Project Manager, Robert and his wife Marcelyn created Robert E. Mann Construction Co. in 1975. Robin Mann Guthrie joined the firm in 1979, representing the second generation in the family-owned and operated company. That same year, Jim Guthrie (now President) began working in the family business, progressing through the ranks as a Carpenter, Superintendent, Project Manager and now Project Director. In 2004, our team, now known as Guthrie General, Inc., began offering design-build services to ensure a seamless project delivery for our clients. Courtney Stewart, representing the third generation of the family-owned and operated company, heads up the in-house design department.

Culture of Safety
We work closely with our subcontractors, clients, and industry partners to ensure that our projects are run safely and effectively. All our work shall comply with the applicable state and federal OSHA standards, Guthrie General, Inc. safety manual, the project safety plan and additional owner’s safety requirements. Budgets and schedules are extremely important to the entire team but ensuring that everyone goes home safely at the end of the day is a necessity.
Quality Control
For a project to be successful, quality control is a necessary ingredient from the very beginning. Establishing an efficient and open line of communication early can help eliminate potential risks in all stages of the project. During the estimating process we make sure we are inviting the right partners to the job. Teaming up the right subcontractors for each client is the foundation for success. After a project is awarded, the quality control must continue throughout the preconstruction phase. This consists of reviewing submittals and updating schedules, setting the table for the continued success of a project. Once the project is underway, ensuring that the project is completed per plans and specifications is paramount to client satisfaction. Once a project is completed, the quality of the closeout process is important for the continued maintenance and operation of a facility. As you can see, quality control does not apply to only one part of a project but is a top priority from start to finish.
ICRA
Guthrie General Inc. has been on the cutting edge of ICRA in the healthcare environment for decades. Keeping the project within the site is important when working in sensitive environments like hospitals. Our team has continued to use the ICRA process in other environments such as Office Buildings, Industrial Warehouses, and Logistics Centers. Even if an area may not be as sensitive, it is still important to protect those around our job sites.
Employee Satisfaction
Guthrie General Inc. would not be in the position it is today without the exceptional work of our employees at each level of the company. It is important that everyone in our team feels a part of the family. We strive for the highest level of satisfaction and fulfillment from our team members through team-building events, holiday parties, continuing education opportunities as well as opportunities for growth within the company. That is how Guthrie has been able to retain some of our employees for 10, 20, or even 30+ years!
